After many safety issues the
past several years, Metro’s General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld decided to
close down a fair portion of the system to get repairs done quickly and safely.
While this will bring inconvenience the next year, it is better than putting
the public safety in jeopardy for the next three years which is the estimate
without the massive shutdowns.
What’s New:
- Repairs start at 8 PM Monday through Friday
- Some repairs occur during weekdays 10 AM – 3:30 PM
- Metro service ends at midnight on Fridays and Saturdays
- Enact Safety Surges – long shutdowns or single tracking during rush hour for critical sections
The conclusion: although there
will be shuttle buses available for closed stations, use alternative travel
methods if you are able to or ask for permission to telework. I suggest taking the
MARC train!
